A quick note. From the "I told you so department," poor Michael was going on a walk with his older sister whom he loves dearly and hardly ever fights with, Nora, and me, but had a close encounter of the painful kind with a concrete surface booby-trapped with gravel. Scraped elbow, sore hip. But, we bravely soldiered on for a while, although he had plenty of material for his swollen vocabulary.
Shortly after returning home and receiving our ministration, he decided to see what would happen if he were to ride his bike without touching the brakes down our steep driveway. We found out that he would lose control and tumble into the grass with the bike taking a contrarian position on top of him. He was a little sore from that episode too.
M.O.M. had to balance pity with the lessons of the transaction, as she yelled, "Use the brakes, use the brakes," while he careened down the hill toward us.
I hope he's learning the right lessons from these days, to balance risk-taking with knowledge of practical physics.
